Tiemann Prize 2025 – Kerstin Brätsch at Marta Café

With the awarding of the Tiemann Prize for Contemporary Painting 2025, endowed with 50,000 euros, to Marta Herford, the museum was able to purchase works by the artist Kerstin Brätsch for its own collection. The purchase includes the relief-like Stucco Marmo works Fossil Psychic_for Christa (2020) and the large-format wallpaper from the series META Rorschach (2024). The ensemble was supplemented by three paper works from the META series, acquired through the museum’s own funds.

Brätsch’s space-staging, color-intensive, and multi-layered works question the tradition of painting and combine digital processes with handcrafted precision. The artist often works site-specifically, as is the case in the Marta Café, whose curved walls have been incorporated into the expansive installation. This can now be experienced publicly, free of charge, and barrier-free, even independently of a museum visit. The interplay of image, space, architecture, and culinary delights becomes a special kind of experience here.

The Marta Café is open from Wednesday to Friday from 11 AM to 6 PM (on the first Wednesday of the month from 11 AM to 8 PM) and on Saturday and Sunday from 10 AM to 6 PM.
