On the occasion of Ingrid Wiener’s exhibition, author Carolin Würfel will read from her book “Ingrid Wiener and the Art of Liberation”, published in 2019. The biographical portrait documents the author’s encounter with the artist and chef Ingrid Wiener and offers insights into the eventful life of a fascinating personality.

“Take your child out of school; her appearance distracts students from learning!” It’s 1960s Vienna, and Ingrid Wiener’s parents follow the teacher’s advice. But an act of obedience turns into a story of rebellion: Ingrid joins a group of famous artists. After scandalous protests, she flees with the men to Berlin, where they establish the legendary “Exil”. Her kitchen soon attracts stars like David Bowie, Peter O’Toole, and Max Frisch. Who is this woman, for whom men made space in their midst, and who at the same time resolutely pursued her own path as an artist? Carolin Würfel revives the extraordinary atmosphere of that era and paints the portrait of an inspiring female figure. (Blurb)

Carolin Würfel, born in Leipzig in 1986, studied history and journalism in Berlin and Istanbul. She works as a freelance author and journalist, particularly for the weekly newspaper DIE ZEIT. In 2019, “Ingrid Wiener and the Art of Liberation” was published as the first of the author’s three books to date.

The talk following the reading, featuring Dirk Strehl (Auslese Bookstore) and Kathleen Rahn (Director of Marta Herford), invites reflection on Wiener’s multifaceted biography in connection with her complex artistic work. Additionally, there will be an opportunity to ask questions and engage in conversation with the author.

Books can be purchased and signed at the Auslese Bookstore’s book table. The exhibition “Ingrid Wiener – Just Do It” can be viewed free of charge on the day of the event from 6 PM with a ticket for the reading.

In 2025, Maestro Giora Feidman continues to dedicate himself powerfully and empathetically to a world without weapons and borders. The internationally renowned clarinetist and peace ambassador appeals on his current tour, “Revolution of Love,” for peaceful coexistence as well as for more love and harmony. In the approximately two-hour concert program, the audience will experience a firework of traditional klezmer as well as masterpieces of tango music and selected compositions from the current CDs, composed by Majid Montazer. During the unforgettable concert, the musicians take the audience on a journey into the world of spiritual and secular music.

This program continues Giora Feidman’s artistic work and goes far beyond the musical dimension. With “Revolution of Love,” Feidman pursues the goal of spreading not only tones, but also the transformative message of love. This revolution is intended to touch the listeners emotionally and initiate a journey full of hope and connection. Giora Feidman and his various ensembles, who will accompany him throughout the tour, are looking forward to these unique concerts and are firmly convinced that music is a powerful force that unites people and can bring about change – a true “Revolution of Love” through music.

Giora Feidman, the winner of several Classical Echo awards, uses his clarinet to communicate through music and share his message. His sound is changeable, passionate, and emotional, but also sensual and down-to-earth. The “King of Klezmer” and interpreter of the Oscar-winning film music of Steven Spielberg’s “Schindler’s List” offers his listeners an extraordinary experience at his concerts. He was also heard in the German films “Beyond Silence” by Caroline Link and “Comedian Harmonists” (1997) by Joseph Vilsmaier.

Feidman has already been honored for his commitment to peace and his services to reconciliation between peoples. He received the International Bridge Prize for his contribution to international understanding in Europe and the Grand Cross of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany for his efforts to promote reconciliation between Jews and Germans.

On the last day of the current exhibition Mohamed Bourouissa – Pour Noubia, the artist will return to Marta in January. The conversation between Bourouissa and guest curator Oriane Durand on the occasion of the finissage will provide valuable insights into his work, individual pieces, and the creation process of this solo exhibition.

The exhibition at Marta Herford is the largest to date in Germany by the Algerian-born, Paris-based artist Mohamed Bourouissa (*1978). In a poetic manner and through captivating spatial installations in the Gehry Galleries, the artist addresses themes, using individual protagonists, that range from an ongoing colonial history and structural discrimination to personal memory.

Bourouissa studied photography, among other subjects, at the École nationale supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris (2008) and at Le Fresnoy (2008–2010). He lives and works in Paris. As an interdisciplinary artist, he works with the media of photography, video, installation, sculpture, and drawings. At the center of his artistic exploration are themes such as social dynamics, power relations, and identity. In this context, marginalized groups and individuals “on the fringes of society” are consistently the protagonists of his works.

Bourouissa’s works have been presented internationally in numerous solo and group exhibitions. They are part of significant public and private collections, including the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), New York; Centre Pompidou, Paris; Finnish Museum of Photography, Helsinki; Fondation Louis Vuitton, Paris; Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), Los Angeles; Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam; and the Philara Collection, Düsseldorf.

His work has been recognized with numerous awards, including at the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival (2025), the International Short Film Festival (2025), the Photobook Prize of the Paris Photo – Aperture Foundation for the book Périphérique (2022), the Deutsche Börse Photography Foundation Prize (2020), the Prix Fondation Blachère (2010), the Prix Studio Collector of the Fondation Antoine de Galbert (2007), and the first prize at Rencontres d’Arles (2007). He was also nominated for the Mario Merz Prize (2024), the Prix Marcel Duchamp (2018), and the Prix Pictet (2017).

Oriane Durand is a freelance curator and author living in France and Germany. The art historian, who holds a degree, previously directed, among other institutions, the Kunstverein Dortmund and the Kunstverein Bielefeld. In her curatorial practice, her interest lies in discovering young artists and experimental practices. For Marta Herford, she developed this largest overview exhibition of the artist in Germany to date, together with Mohamed Bourouissa.
