For her sculptural and media works, Katja Novitskova uses researched material from the fields of science, research, and technology. Among other things, she creates visually powerful assemblages with the help of computers and artificial intelligence. The relationship between the natural and digital world, technology, and ecology are central themes in her work. In her aluminum objects, animal motifs, organic forms, and graphic elements merge into enigmatic images. In the series Approximation (Biobanks), the artist addresses species extinction: This work evokes a fantastic creature; two flamingos and hands taking blood from them frame the motif. Novitskova thus raises questions about biobanks: Large stocks of data and seeds have been created to counteract declining biodiversity.
