DESCRIPTION:Since 2013\, the “Herford Architecture Talks” have addressed ideas and visions of urban life as well as current issues in architecture and urban planning – a stimulating evening with renowned and influential personalities\, not just for architects! \nCity + Vision 44 – Herford Architecture Talks with a keynote speech by Liza Heilmeyer / Birk Heilmeyer and Frenzel Architekten\, Stuttgartopen–more open–public \nThe architect Liza Heilmeyer will speak on this topic in her keynote speech at the Marta: \nBuilding in general\, but public building in particular\, is the cultural expression of our society\, a reflection of our values. How do we want to work\, learn and research together? What space do we give to encounter and assembly? How can inclusion succeed? How do we build in a way that conserves resources and is suitable for future generations? What role does design play in this? The public sector wavers between the pioneering role it should take and strict cost specifications\, sometimes complicated decision-making and awarding processes\, and overall scarce resources. A challenge for everyone involved. Is everyone still willing to accept this?         \nLiza Heilmeyer (*1975 in Freiburg im Breisgau) completed a one-year course at the Freie Kunstschule Stuttgart and then studied architecture at the University of Stuttgart\, where she graduated in 2003. After graduating\, she worked at Foster+Partners in London. Liza Heilmeyer and Stephan Birk then founded their own office\, Birk und Heilmeyer\, in Stuttgart in 2005\, which was renamed Birk Heilmeyer und Frenzel Architekten in 2012 together with Martin Frenzel.   \nHer work has received several awards\, including the Deubau Prize for Young Architects\, the Advancement Award from the Architekturgalerie am Weißenhof\, the North Rhine-Westphalia Advancement Award for Young Artists\, and the “Europe 40 under 40 – Europe’s emerging young architects and designers” award. From 2008 to 2010 she worked as an academic assistant at the Institute for Structural Design (Chair 2). In 2009 she was appointed to the Association of German Architects (BDA). In 2010 and 2012 she was a member of the Convent of the Federal Foundation for Building Culture. DESCRIPTION:On the occasion of Ingrid Wiener’s exhibition\, author Carolin Würfel will read from her book “Ingrid Wiener and the Art of Liberation”\, published in 2019. The biographical portrait documents the author’s encounter with the artist and chef Ingrid Wiener and offers insights into the eventful life of a fascinating personality.  \n“Take your child out of school; her appearance distracts students from learning!” It’s 1960s Vienna\, and Ingrid Wiener’s parents follow the teacher’s advice. But an act of obedience turns into a story of rebellion: Ingrid joins a group of famous artists. After scandalous protests\, she flees with the men to Berlin\, where they establish the legendary “Exil”. Her kitchen soon attracts stars like David Bowie\, Peter O’Toole\, and Max Frisch. Who is this woman\, for whom men made space in their midst\, and who at the same time resolutely pursued her own path as an artist? Carolin Würfel revives the extraordinary atmosphere of that era and paints the portrait of an inspiring female figure. (Blurb)        \nCarolin Würfel\, born in Leipzig in 1986\, studied history and journalism in Berlin and Istanbul. She works as a freelance author and journalist\, particularly for the weekly newspaper DIE ZEIT. In 2019\, “Ingrid Wiener and the Art of Liberation” was published as the first of the author’s three books to date.   \nThe talk following the reading\, featuring Dirk Strehl (Auslese Bookstore) and Kathleen Rahn (Director of Marta Herford)\, invites reflection on Wiener’s multifaceted biography in connection with her complex artistic work. The prize\, endowed with 50\,000 Euros\, enables the acquisition of three works by artist Kerstin Brätsch for the Marta collection.
