Artists show their Collection

Seven international artists reveal what in some cases is a hidden passion for collection. The collection areas range from noteworthy works by fellow artists to historical photography, right up to everyday objects.

The special nature of the exhibition, however, consists in the fact that the participants do not simply lend their collections to the museum. Rather, each artist presents his or her own individual, very personal “Museum of Passion”, which in many cases also features works of their own.

In contrast to classical museum collections, artist collections are non-hierarchical and non-scientific compilations which often blur the conventional boundaries between high and popular culture, between industrial perfection and handicraft simplicity, between the valuable and the valueless. When artists set out to collect art – whether the Old Masters or contemporary art – this often reveals a source of stimulus, influence and inspiration with respect to their own work.
