The Marta Collection
The Collection is the Museum’s backbone. Here, artistic works reflect contemporary themes and values. These works, often from exhibitions, are not only preserved, but also put into new contexts time and again. Thus the Museum’s Collection also documents questions and perspectives of social development with artistic means and offers a vivid space for confrontation and new perspectives.
Founding director Jan Hoet built up the Marta Collection with great commitment and passion from 2002. In terms of content, it is in line with the special focus of the Museum: It features works by contemporary artists who work in the intersecting fields of architecture, visual art and design.
The Museum receives generous support from the Friends of Marta association, which never tires of accompanying its work with a constant stream of new ideas. For at present, the Museum does not have its own purchasing budget and is dependent on the goodwill of its friends and supporters.
Due to temporary exhibitions, the Marta Collection is, with the exception of a few outdoor sculptures, not always on show at the Museum.
